Delegations

/settings/delegations

A delegation temporarily redirects approval authority from one user (the delegator) to another (the delegate). Used when an approver is on leave, training, or otherwise out of pocket.

What the table shows

Per row: delegator, delegate, date range, change types covered.

Adding a delegation

The Add dialog captures:

  • Delegator — whose authority is being delegated
  • Delegate — who receives it
  • Date range — start and end (inclusive)
  • Change types — limit the scope, or "all"

Date ranges can be open-ended for indefinite delegations, but most have an explicit end date so authority returns automatically.

How it interacts with approval chains

When a change request walks its approval chain, each step checks for an active delegation on the assigned approver. If one exists, the delegate is notified instead of the original approver. The audit log records both the original and the actual approver for compliance.

If the delegate is also on a delegation, the system follows the chain (no infinite loops — the system stops if it detects a cycle).
